Parametrization of surface models (SVAT and vegetation), intra and inter-specific variability of vegetation growth and physiological functionning (herbaceous and woody) in response to the variation of rainfall and soil moisture in Gourma (Mali). Interspecific variability of root dynamics. Documentation of the soil characteristics (texture, characteristic curves, infiltration...). These measurements are required for a better parameterization of the response of vegetation and soils to climatic forcings and for water fluxes simulation. These data will provide the basic parameters for the initialization of the surface-atmosphere exchange models. Links with atmospheric chemistry (soil emissions and deposits).
Strategie d'observation
1) seasonal dynamics of the vegetation cover, 2) seasonal monitoring of the leaf water potential: observations every 10/15 days in rainy season over the principal woody species, and every month during the dry season, on the supersite 3) specific measurements during the period of maximal cover (July-August) on the intensive site of Agoufou: stomatal conductance, leaf water potential, and photosynthetic assimilation (comparison of species in stable conditions or daily monitoring by species, in natural conditions), specific response curves of photosynthetic assimilation to the light, species screening, effects of water stress and dry sequences dr 4) CO2 measurements on soil and vegetation and relationship with NOx emission , measurements on specific herbaceous individuals. 5) root profiles, soil and plant analyses.
