Site description
RésuméDocumentation of the soil moisture dynamic in sahelian region. The aim is to characterize the spatial variability of the soil moisture, with particular attention focussed on the meridional gradient in the Gourma mesoscale site. Vertical and temporal variabilities are also very important. The data set will improve our understanding of land surface processes (WP2.3), continental water budget (WP1.2) and surface-atmosphere retroactions (WP1.3). It will be used in modelling and assimilation activities (WP4.1.2), as well as for validation of satellite products (WP4.3).
Strategie d'observationNetwork of 9 moisture and temperature profile measurements covering various types of soil/vegetation in the Gourma meso scale site.

The soil moisture variability measurements are part of a complete land surface processes observation strategy, with vegetation and meteorological observations.
The objective is to use the soil moisture data together with modelling and remote sensing approaches to study the soil-plant-atmosphere interactions at different scales.
