Description du jeu de données
RésuméAerosol particle extinction coefficient at two wavelengths (450 and 630 nm) measured at the surface level at Henties Bay.
Strategie d'observationThe aerosol particle extinction coefficient at two wavelengths (450 and 630 nm) was measured by an Aerodyne extinction meter(model CAPS-PMEx, Aerodyne) operated in the PEGASUS mobile lab. Air was taken into the instrument from one of the two custom-built high volume wind-orientable inlet of the mobile station. Data were acquired continuously at 3 minute time resolution.

Instrument environmentThe instrument was located inside the PEGASUS mobile station. PEGASUS was installed at the Sam Nujoma Marine and Coastal Resources Research Centre (SANUMARC) of the University of Namibia in Henties Bay (22°S, 14°05’E), Namibia. Henties Bay is a small town in an arid environment with no vegetation, no industrial activity and very little traffic. Energy usage is predominantly a mix of electricity and gas, with some solid fuel combustion (wood) due to low availability. The site on the University campus, is located on the coast approximately 20 m from the shore line. To the east are the Namibian Gravel Plains, at 3 km to the south of the campus is the town of Henties Bay, and to the north is the Omaruru Riverbed (river mouth approximately 100 m from SANUMARC). The population of Henties Bay ranges between 4 600 and 6 000 inhabitants, according to the Namibia 2011 population and housing census.

Information sur l'utilisation des données
Conditions d'utilisation des donnéesThe Principal Investigator(s) of the extinction data for the AEROCLO-sA campaign is Paola Formenti (paola.formenti@lisa.u-pec.fr). The dataset will be publicly released after a two-year embargo period ending on October 2019. Meanwhile, data are made available to associated partners by email request to aeroclo-sc@lisa.u-pec.fr upon approval by the project scientific steering committee and the data PI. Please consider authorship for the PI whenever using the data for publications or presentations.
